Alan Yorinks: Raspberry RedBot

Date: Monday, December 12th @ 7pm

Come and join us for the December meetup!

Alan Yorinks will be sharing his experiences working with the Raspberry Pi (transitioning from the original Arduino based processor board) on the RedBot robotics platform.

Alan Yorinks is a retired “Bell Labs Geek” who worked as an embedded software engineer for over 39 years. Relatively new to Python (since 2013), he has been spending his time writing Python based software to interface to, and to control Micro-Controller Units, such as Arduino, Raspberry Pi and the BeagleBone Black. Amongst his open source efforts, he has authored “s2a_fm (https://github.com/MrYsLab/s2a_fm)”, a program that allows users to control Arduino Boards using the Scratch programming language. It has been translated to 10 languages and is used in classrooms world wide.

His latest Python adventures have involved experimenting with the Python asyncio library to control robots and other physical devices.

When not on the computer, he facilitates an after school programming club for the Stone Bridge Middle School, and is an adult literacy volunteer tutor.
